Deep Sea Wreck Fishing - Lure Fishing and Fishing at Anchor - Autumn Sea Fishing.

Travelling far offshore, solo small boat fishing can be exciting and challenging. Autumn and Winter can offer some wonderful wreck fishing and this was a prime example. Trying a new location I had an incredible day fishing with lures and some monster fish with bait. Pollack, Coalfish, Ling and HUGE Conger.
Here are links to the heavier gear I was using. I hope it helps:

    • The Fish Locker are you possibly not putting enough pressure on the line, as running it through the fingers mimics an overhead reel and with an overhead reel they sink straight down. Other than that keep the vids coming I’m from oz and enjoy watching how people fish around the world.

      steven Rusansteven Rusan3 ay əvvəl
    • @steven Rusan - I have tried that but found it only really works with speed jigs. I tried it whilst fishing alongside others to compare and with tail weighted jigs you reach the seabed at exactly the same time? 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Fish LockerThe Fish Locker3 ay əvvəl
    • Mate when using a spin reel if you hold the braid lightly between your finger’s on the drop, the lure will sink straight down instead of fluttering the whole way down. You’ll get into the zone a lot quicker

I can understand that you kept the Pollock and ling, because there blown, but for the love of me l don't understand why you didn't keep the COnger, ow! And the tuna fish subject, who the hell is it that could say you can land them? My mind boggles! Thanks again mate, another hour of good entertainment

    Ricky WallaceRicky WallaceGün əvvəl
    • There was no need to keep the conger as I already had 30lb+ of pollack meat and ling to take home, it could go back so I let it live. And the Tuna is a countrywide UK law. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey it's only 1:45 am this time instead of 5am like the other morning.LOL.I took your advice the other day and went to bed.Well again....enjoying all your excellent videos mate.Take care..From your friend on the other side of the pond.Tight lines and calm seas. P.S. - All the years I worked on fishing boats I loved watching the Sun come up too! And also watching the stars at night from 80 miles offshore.Without any artificial light you see everything. Ok....take care.

    • @The Fish Locker I've always had twin outboard.Heavy boat and i like that extra insurance.Might be a slow ride but i get home.Had brand new motors...took it in for the 200 hour oil change...got 50 miles offshore had an engine alarm go off on port side motor.Pulled the top to find out the mechanic over tightned the oil filter cracking it loosing oil.SO now I always carry a spare filter.Always did carry fuel filters but what the heck....lol..Anyways..yes.....The night time is quite special. One quick story.A few years ago on a commercial fishing trip..Charter in Summer..Commercial in winter....anyways it was midnight June....Glass calm ocean....Full moon when all of a Sudden while moving too a new spot creeping along at 10 knots I was immediately surrounded by what i guess was 1000 Spotted dolphins ! They stayed around me for about 30 mins sounding all in unison.TOTALLY A ONCE IN A LIFETIME THRILL ! Well..its 4:14 am guess it's bedtime.Take care again my friend...And YES..Its always a pleasure to talk to you...Peace mate!

I only run a single engine, but do had filing paddles onboard should trouble really be imminent. But as I have said before, if you cannot trust the engine you have - you shouldn't be going to sea. 😊

  • Nice bunch of fish. With the covid I haven't been Pollack or Haddock fishing this year, From what I have been told the haddock fishing was great all summer and into the fall with pollack coming in strong later in the fall. Hopefully next year I will be able to get out and get some great fish, For jigging I mostly use jigs in the 12 to 16 ounce size. Some times I have to move up to 21 ounce jig , I tend to use heavy jigs due to how many people are on the boat so it is better if I m straight possible to cut down on tangles

    Eoin CooneyEoin CooneyAy əvvəl

  • Really enjoyed watching you fish for the first time today. Love all the information you provide too. My fishing days are over due to chronic illnesses and a recent stroke, but joining you via video is nearly as good as being there!! Well done! Thanks for doing such a great job. All the best! Keep safe. Warmest Regards from Gippsland, Victoria, Australia!

  • If you want to release the fish, you can. You just have to let the fish have enough time to decompress.. The fish usually stop fighting when pressure gets to it, let it catch it´s breathe for a minute, then retrieve it. Make a few stops on the way up and the fish should be ok to release.

    • @The Fish Locker Yeah, that conger was a massive freight train and they are tough as rocks. Nice catch! Yes, you are the real fisherman here and i´m sure you know a lot better than me how it´s "done properly" so to say. Not hating or anything! Just saying that it´s possible at least with some species of fish and worth a try if anyone want´s to catch and release. Been fishing a lot of cod, halibut and such up in Norway and it tends to work well, however. as you say depth is off course also an issue. Anyways, great video! Thumbs up, and subbed.

    • - That is true with some fish and up to a certain depth. Pollack and ling just don’t handle it well. I have tried everything. On this day I took a good solid 4 minutes to bring one of them up stopping every 5 winds of the reel and it was still blown. I have had ling and Pollack in 60 ft of water still blow and wrasse blow in 30ft. Yet look at that conger. Straight up and straight down. Some fish just suffer more than others.

The Fish LockerThe Fish Locker2 ay əvvəl
  • What makes conger eels special when it comes to survivability vs something like a ling? Is it something to do with the swim bladder?

    Lauren GLauren G2 ay əvvəl
    • - Yes. Exactly that. Eels simply seem to be able to equalise pressure better than Ling. You can often see when fighting a big eel that you get lots of air bubbles at the surface before you see the fish. 😊

  • Have you ever caught a Tarpon? I know that they are not native to Europe but just thought I'd ask. Every time I go to the Caribbean I see them and wonder how long the fight would be to feel one in.

  • Aloha from Hawai'i. I enjoy your videos very much. We do things a little different here in the islands but one thing we have in common are conger eels, we have them too. Do you just catch the eels for sport? Does anyone eat them. Here in Hawai'i those of Portuguese decent like to eat congers, most of us just throw them back too. Keep up the great videos. Mahalo a nui loa.

    • - Conger eels are not really taken for eating here in the UK. There is almost no commercial value for them either - so they are just released. Take care and have a great day. 😊

    • Worry of judgement; lack of likes; or fear of failure. So many reasons why my vids have so many cuts. Confidence grows a bit each time though.

  • Why is conger popular? Size? Eating? They look cool? I like that you explain the difference between similar species. Do you have a cooler for the fish or do you hang them in the water?

    SkinfaxiSkinfaxi2 ay əvvəl
    • - Conger is popular with catch and release anglers because they are tough, they survive being caught and released multiple times and they grow very big. I explain in the video I usually use a stringer.

  • So in New England, that which you caught first is called a pollock. Pollachius Virens. It's the only one that we get on the East Coast, so we call it pollock. There is also Alaska pollock on the West Coast, but that's a totally different fish from another family. We have some deep water (400ft) spots offshore that are loaded with schools of Pollock. Big ones too. We use heavy jigs and incite feeding frenzies, I have some videos on my channel.

    Matt ClarkMatt Clark2 ay əvvəl
    • - Thats part of what gives confusion on the species. Our Pollack are Pollachius pollachius. Coalfish are Pollachius virens. Both great fighting fish aren't they. 😊
